Understanding the complexity of trauma and becoming trauma informed

This course is a basic introductory course packed with information you need to know, it will guide you through the understanding of trauma and how it affects both the mind and the body. We will look at the Polyvagal Theory and why this is important and how it links to trauma. We will also look at the different automatic trauma responses and gain knowledge as to how these come into play. The course will also go into child adversities and trauma and how this can affect child development and cause issues into adulthood. We will explore the difference between a traumatic event and being traumatised and between PTSD and CPTSD. We will also explore what is healing and what steps we can take moving towards healing.

  • What is trauma?

    In this lesson we will look at definitions of trauma and what we mean by trauma. We will look at how trauma is seen and explore the difference between a traumatic event and being traumatised.

  • The Polyvagal Theory

    This lesson will give us an understanding of the Polyvagal theory and how stress and trauma affects our nervous system.

  • Trauma responses

    This lesson explore the different types of automatic trauma responses that occur and explains what they are and what they might look like.

  • Recognising the effects and consequences of trauma

    This lesson focuses on how trauma can affect us in a variety of ways and individually and aims to explore some of the ways we may identify unresolved trauma and to understand how it may manifest.

  • Childhood trauma and adversities

    This lesson looks at childhood trauma and adversities and what we mean by this.

  • Healing from trauma

    In this final lesson we will explore what healing means and what steps we can take towards healing and what tools we can put in place to help towards this process. Healing is a process not a destination.
